The Atlas People & Culture Index (PCI)

A Workplace Culture Map & Measure

HR teams have no shortage of workplace surveys but most of them are asking yesterday's boring questions. Engagement surveys are disengaging, and pulse surveys are failing to find a pulse.

What is the PCI?

The People and Culture Index (PCI) grew out of interviews with over a hundred HR and people leaders, and one simple question:

What do you wish you knew about your staff that your current tools can't tell you?

The result is a short (no more than 5 minutes) low-burden fully anonymous survey that goes separately to leaders and staff, exploring whether the workplace culture makes room for the people inside it, whether the values on the wall match the mood in the room, what actually drives people and whether staff and leaders are looking at the same future.

What are the themes of the PCI?

We start by capturing gender, age, priorities and tenure.

  1. Cultural Infusion: Wherein we explore if your team find their place in the 'workplace culture', and might any aspect of their identity be perceived a professional barrier?
  2. The Vibe: Values might come from the top, but we take a look inside-out. What’s really happening in the workplace?
  3. Crystal Ball: Every organisation lives in the present, but people make decisions based on the future. Crystal Ball looks at what staff and leaders think lies ahead.

The business case

Workplace culture shapes how people perform, stay, grow; and understanding it is key to building a stronger organisation.

The competition for talent attraction and the battle for talent retention is very real.
The lived culture of a workplace can influence both.
In thriving cultures we can draw a straight line to increased productivity and profits.
Benchmarking your PCI will also help you understand also where your organisation sits in the context of your region or industry.
Analysing the ‘perception gap’ between leaders and staff is essential data to build a thriving culture.

Sample Question (from Crystal Ball)

"On what issue do you think this organisation should primarily focus to improve its workplace culture over the next two years?"
