Mabo Day (Australia)

Commemorates Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful court case, which in 1992 overturned the Australian fiction of terra nullius (‘land that belongs to nobody’) that had formed the legal basis for occupation of Indigenous peoples’ lands throughout Australia and the Torres Strait Islands.
